Coffee & Books
Written by Pastor Andrew Spradlin
We have long dreamed of having a coffee shop on our campus that would serve as a fellowship point for our people all throughout the week. If enough money is pledged on December 8 (see “Campaign Goals” in this newsletter), we will put a coffee shop in our new building. Lining the coffee shop will be thousands of books that my mom is donating from the home library of my dad, Pastor Roger Spradlin.
Before my dad died, we shared the idea with him. Then I asked him, "Dad, how do you like that idea?" His face lit up with excitement, and he said, "I don't like it; I love it!"
Valley Baptist has been a beacon of truth in our city for 39 years now, valuing the careful study of God’s Word. This library will be a treasure trove of resources from pastors and theologians throughout the history of the universal Church. It will also serve as a symbol of our humble commitment to take seriously the careful study of God’s Word. We rejoice that each and every member in our church will have access to it.
Our commitment is to give away 100% of the profits of the coffee shop to missions. May God be glorified in this coffee shop through Christ-centered fellowship, careful study of God’s Word, and the money raised for the advancement of the gospel throughout the world.
